Our topic for Summer 1 is…

In English, we will be writing a diary entry of a young child who has experienced their village being raided by Vikings. We will turn these diary entries into audio stories using Audacity during our computing unit. Then, we will write a narrative, rhyming poem linking to our science unit of sound. We will be re-writing our own version of Roger McGough’s “The Sound Collector” Finally, we will be putting our Anglo Saxon and Viking Knowledge to the test, by writing our own non-fiction books filled with interesting information.

In Maths we will be learning about decimals as fractions.  We will also look at how to round decimals to the nearest whole.  Money, we will look at converting pounds and pence as well as being able to estimate and calculate money.  Additionally, we will be looking at time where we will be at analogue and digital clocks.  We will also be converting to and from the 24 hour clock.

In science, we will be learning all about sound. We will understand how sound is created through vibrations and distinguish between different types of sound. We will investigate how sound travels and find ways to make it travel more effectively. We will also be taking part in an exciting experience to learn about sound further with a visit from the Science Dome!
