Iguanas (Y5)

Welcome to the Iguana Class

Welcome to the Year 5 Iguanas class page. The staff at Waverley Junior Academy are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding your transition to the Iguana class and what exciting things we have planned. For the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.

Mr Selkirk – Class Teacher

Our first topic ‘The Tudors’ will take us back to the death of King Henry VII and the reign of Henry VIII. We will be learning about how the Tudors became the rulers of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We will be looking at the Battle of Bosworth and what occurred during this time. We will also be finding out about King Henry VIII’s lavish lifestyle and his marriages during his life.

In English, we will be reading 'Spy Master' and writing a recount. In Maths, during the Autumn term we will cover Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and Fractions. The children have 'TT Rockstars' and 'My Maths' log-ins in the front of their planners to support their timetables and Maths learning.

In History, we will identify historical moments that were significant to the Tudor period and discover what the Tudor lifestyle was really like. In Science, we will be learning about growing up. In RSHE, we will cover friendships and feelings. In R.E we will be studying Jesus and the 21st Century.
