Welcome to the Year 5 page. The Year 5 staff at Waverley are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding your transition to Year 5 and what exciting things we have planned. For the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.
Our Autumn 2 will be Extreme Sports.
In English, we are focusing on our thrilling class text 'King of the Cloud Forests' by Michael Morpurgo, a fantasy and adventure book. Young Ashley faces a perilous journey across the Himalayas after having to flee his home due to war. We will be looking at fables as our example text and then building up our skills in preparation for writing our own fable linked to the text.
In Maths, we are mainly focusing on multiplication and division this half term. We will begin by practising multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000 and then looking at common multiples, common factors and prime, square and cube numbers. After that we will be moving on to Measurement.

Important Information
Sea Lions and Iguanas P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Tigers P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school on these days and labelled with their name and class.
Spellings: Our weekly spelling test will be on a Friday.
Times tables are practised daily at the start of our Maths lesson.

Home Learning
Each half term we will send out a home learning bingo grid with tasks for you to complete at home. Here are this half term’s challenges for you to try.
Other home learning activities for Autumn 1 are:
- Learning spellings weekly using Spelling Shed.
- Reading individual reading book at least four times a week.
- Spend 10 minutes a day on TT Rockstars.
