Our History topic for Autumn 2 is extreme sports.

 

      

This term, Year 5 will be exploring the wonderful physical geography of the United Kingdom, focusing on its mountains and coastal areas. We will discover some of the UK's most famous natural landscapes, including Ben Nevis in Scotland and the beautiful coastline of Cornwall.

Throughout the topic, children will learn about different outdoor activities that these landscapes offer, such as mountain climbing, surfing and white-water rafting. They will investigate where the best places in the UK are for these activities and consider why certain locations are particularly suitable.

Vocabulary	Definition
Summit	The highest point or peak of a mountain.
Plateau	A large area of high land that is flat on top.
Coastline	The place where the land meets the sea.
Source	The starting point of a river, where the water begins to flow.
Tributaries	Small rivers or streams that flow into a larger river.
Erosion	The wearing away and removal of rock and soil by water, wind or ice.
Sea Defences	Structures built along the coast to protect the land from flooding and waves, such as sea walls and groynes.

 

Our Science topic for Autumn 2 is Forces.

  

 

In our topic on Forces, we will explore how forces affect the way objects move. We will investigate different types of forces, carry out practical experiments and discover how forces are useful in everyday life.

In English and Guided Reading, we will be writing a narrative based on our class text ‘The Wizards of Once’.

In Maths, we will be carrying on with statistics and reading an interpreting line graphs. After that, we will move on to multiplication and division, including factors and multiples.

Important Information

Sea Lions and Iguanas P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday.

Tigers P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday.

Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school on these days and labelled with their name and class.

Spellings: Our weekly spelling test will be on a Friday.

Times tables are practiced daily at the start of our Maths lesson.

Each half term we will send out a home learning bingo grid with tasks for you to complete at home. Here are this half term’s challenges for you to try.

-Learning spellings weekly using Spelling Shed.

-Reading individual reading book at least four times a week. 

-Spend 10 minutes a day on TT Rockstars.
