Welcome to the Year 5 class page. The staff at Waverley Junior Academy are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-deserved break. On this page you will find key information regarding the exciting things we have planned this half term. In the meantime, have a look at the home learning activities you can have a go at.
Our Spring 1 Topic will be Victorians
Our third topic ‘The Victorians’ will take us back to the reign of Queen Victoria. We will be learning about how the Victorians changed the way people lived and how the industrial revolution started. We will be looking at life in the workhouses and this will be supported by our class text “Street Child”.
Key vocabulary pupils will learn through this topic can be found in the table below.
Important Information
Sea Lions and Iguanas P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Tigers P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Please make sure your child’s P.E kit is in school on these days and labelled with their name and class.
Spellings: Our weekly spelling test will be on a Friday.
Times tables are practised daily at the start of our Maths lesson.
There will be a class workshop on the 2nd February all about the Victorians (children only).

Home Learning
Each half-term we will send out a home learning bingo grid with tasks for you to complete at home. Here are this half-term’s challenges for you to try. Children have now got access to MyMaths and Spelling shed where we will set them subject-specific work.
Other home learning activities for Spring 1 are:
- Learning spellings weekly using Spelling Shed.
- Reading individual reading book at least four times a week.
- Spend 10 minutes a day on TT Rockstars.
